A: Usually 4–12 weeks. The timeline varies based on your qualifications and family preferences—but we'll keep you updated every step of the way.
Q. How long is the Hanhai Au Pair China program?
A: The program lasts 3–12 months—and if you and your host family click, you can extend even longer. We're happy to help make that happen when the time feels right.
Q. How long will I be able to stay in China after I complete my time with my host family?
A: Program completion means leaving China—but before you go, you have the freedom to travel! Use your days off or paid holiday to discover new cities, meet new people, and create even more memories. Just keep in mind: no working during your travels. This time is for you.
Life as an Au Pair
Q. What will my responsibilities be as an au pair?
A: Your role is simple: be part of the family. That means up to 30 hours a week spent with the children—teaching English, helping them get ready for school, sharing in everyday moments. And like any family member, you'll pitch in by keeping your space neat and cleaning up after yourself. It's not just a job; it's life together.
Q. How much will I be paid?
A: You'll receive at least 2,000 RMB each month for personal expenses. On top of that, a flight stipend of up to 12,000 RMB is added to your monthly pocket money (1,000 RMB per month)—so your journey is supported from the start.
The follwing is also covered by your host family:

Q. Do au pairs clean the house or do other domestic duties?
A: No. Au pairs are extended family members, not domestic helpers. Your responsibilities are child-centered: cleaning up after the children, preparing their meals, doing their laundry, and other kid-related chores. You will not be required to clean the entire house, do laundry for all family members, or regularly cook for everyone. Clear boundaries mean a healthy, respectful family relationship.
Q. Will I be able to take Mandarin classes?
A: Yes. Weekly Mandarin classes: 3 hours. Included. Just for you.
Q. Do I need to be able to drive a car?
A: No. Driving is typically not required—different roads, different rules, and your focus belongs with the kids.
Q. Will I have my own bedroom?
A. Yes.
Q. Will I be able to travel?
A: Yes. Travel freely on your time off—or join your host family on theirs. China is waiting.
Costs & Fees
